Growl for Windows

We always receive notifications when certain events occur, but the operating system does not give us too much control over these notifications. We can not make them less annoying without disabling them. Growl for Windows gives you the possibility of setting up and customizing notifications for numerous applications. While monitoring one or more applications, the software will display notifications, with different priority levels, for various events, from simple updates to system failures.

As the software's name points out, you can use it on Windows, but a Mac OS X edition is available as well. Growl for Windows can be installed in a matter of seconds, without any difficulties. It is distributed as a freeware application, so you don't have to pay for it.

The software's features are organized on a user friendly interface, in separate sections. Growl for Windows works with various external monitoring applications for the system, RSS feeds, weather and more and you can download them from the developer's web site. You can also find plug-ins for applications that may already be installed on your computer, such as Winamp, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, iTunes and more. Once you install and run a supported application, you will find it listed in the Applications section, on the program's interface.

You can select a listed application and make various configurations, depending on the application and how you wish to be notified of certain events. Configuring one or more notifications is not difficult. You just need to choose a notification type and select various options, in different drop menus. Depending on your selection, the software will display notifications in different areas of the screen, with different colors, play sounds and more. You can also download and install additional notification displays.

A feature that makes Growl for Windows shine is the possibility of forwarding notifications to another computer, an iPhone or Windows Phone or to an email account. Additionally, you can set the program to send a notification only when the computer is idle or if the notification has a certain priority level.
